Line Item Veto (3/20/06)

I wish to express my opposition to the "Line Item Veto" being given to the President. First, if given only by statute, the "Line Item Veto" would be an unconstitutional shifting of legislative power. The Constitution only grants the President the power to veto an entire bill, not parts of it. Congress does not have the authority to "delegate" its legislative powers to the President.
Even the "proper" granting of the "Line Item Veto" to the President via a Constitutional Amendment would be a bad idea. Studies comparing state budgets between states where governors have or don't have the "Line Item Veto" have not shown any improvements in the control of spending with the Line Item Veto.
What the "Line Item Veto" would do is to give the President the power to threaten and punish Congressmen or Senators who don't vote in accordance with his desires. The message will be "Vote my way, or the people of your state or district won't see any of the tax money they sent to Washington returned to them for their benefit".
Please reject the "Line Item Veto", regardless of if by statute or constitutional amendment.

Illegal Immigration    4/11/06

I wish to express my complete opposition to the Illegal Immigration Amnesty Bill(s) which passed from the Senate Committee. Regardless of what the features are called, the Senate Bill would reward illegal immigrants for breaking our laws. If passed, this Bill would simply set us up for another "Amnesty" Bill in another 10 years as millions more would flock across our borders.
Please support the version which passed the House (HR 4437). Even if some "fine tuning" takes place on the HR 4427 Bill, absolutely no "Amnesty" provision by any name may be included. Our borders must be secured. People who cross our borders illegally must not be rewarded.
Please advise of your plans in this matter.

Illegal Immigration     3/21/06

I wish to express my complete opposition to any attempts to reward illegal immigrants with "guest worker" or similar status. Any immigrant to the United States should have to enter the country legally. If United States native citizens are expected to obey the law, so should immigrants.
The flow of illegal immigrants into the United States must be halted and the borders secured. While most are admittedly "neighbors" crossing the border to find work, too many are criminals and others are from other areas of the worlds simply transitting through Mexico. The number from the Middle East should be a concern to anybody.
While the extent of "legal" immigration may be open to debate, rewarding illegal immigration, regardless of the name given to it, should not be. Please secure our borders and oppose any bill which grants any legal status to those who crossed our borders illegally.

4 May

Dear Sir,

I wish to express my complete opposition to the any Immigration Bill which includes any sort of "Amnesty" provision. Regardless of what the features are called, any form of "Amnesty" would reward illegal immigrants for breaking our laws. If passed, an "Amnesty" Bill would simply set us up for another "Amnesty" Bill in another 10 years as millions more would flock across our borders.
While the original House Bill has its merits, I'd rather see no no laws passed rather than any bill which includes "Amnesty". Enforcing the existing laws would be a great place to start. Our borders must be secured. People who cross our borders illegally must not be rewarded.
Please advise of your plans in this matter.

Please Don't Reward Illegal Immigration       31 March

I wish to express my complete opposition to the "Amnesty Bill" recently voted out of committee in the Senate. Giving "Amnesty" or any form of legal status to those who have crossed our border illegally is unacceptable. American citizens are expected to "obey the law", and illegal immigrants must not be rewarded for breaking the law.
What we need is a bill which provides for true border security and protect us from the criminals, gangsters, social services abusers, drug runners, and would-be terrorists ("other than Mexicans" from the Middle East) among the "illegals".
We don't need this level of immigration to provide "workers". Americans will do the work; the immigrants merely underbid them on the pay.
Please; no "Amnesty" is acceptable, regardless of the name!
