What will I be bringing to the Southern Brewers' Festival this year? It's scheduled for August 28th.

Black Cherry Ale - 20 gallons
I will be bringing 20 gallons of Black Cherry Ale. I will make it in the same manner as I did last year; so, refer to my page on Fruit Ales for more information. I am planning on it being in the 10-12% ABV range.

Although originally designed with the ladies in mind, macho men with lots of hair on their chests have found this to be a worthwhile drink!

Tennessee Mountain Grog - 20 gallons
This is to be a "skeachen" bittered with lime. I will cheat, and use an amber malt extract along with the Golden Molasses (and some cane sugar) to make an extremely robust ale. I will then add lime juice concentrate when I keg it a couple of weeks before the festival. I plan on this being in the 13-14% ABV range.

This is derived from the "Grog" common in the British Navy back in the 1700's & 1800's. Scurvey was a vitamin deficiency disease which the Brit's "cured" by eating limes and other tropical citrus fruits. The "Grog" was a mixture of rum and water to which the lime juice was added, a sure fire way to get the lime juice consumed. Rum, of course, is fermented from sugar cane molasses. So, the "roots" of the Tennessee Mountain Grog should be readily apparent.

If it turns out that I can brew and bring more, I will list the additional ales here as I brew them.
